Weekly Client Pack Walk ($20 per dog)
Our Pack Walk is available for Prairieburn K9 Academy clients who have participated in our Foundations Workshop, Day Training, Stay & Train, Day Adventures, or Board and Train programs. It is a one hour weekly follow up handling class that allows clients to practice working with their dog in a safe and predictable environment. They are also able to work through real life situations out in public around other dogs, people, bikes, vehicles and more!
Please be sure to bring your dog 10-15 minutes early and on the training tool appropriate for your dog’s training. Only one dog per person. This is a time for you to focus on one dog at a time to build a relationship and work on both of your skills in a real-life setting. If you have more than one dog that has done training with us, please bring another person to handle the other dog.
Watch our events page for upcoming pack walk dates.
Canine Good Neighbour
The Canine Good Neighbour Program is a CKC (Canadian Kennel Club) initiated 12-step evolution that when completed successfully, will ensure that one of our most favoured companions, the dog, is ac
cepted as a valued member of our communities right across the country.
The evaluation is non-competitive and allows dog and handler to demonstrate confidence and control in 12 steps. It assesses the handler and dog’s relationship, together with the handler’s ability to control the dog. Dogs are evaluated on their ability to perform basic exercises as well as their ability to demonstrate good manners in everyday situations.
Debbi McArthur, owner and founder of Prairieburn K9 Academy is a certified CKC Canine Good Neighbour evaluator and offers training to prepare you for the evaluation with her.
This is also a great first step if you are interested in your dog becoming a service dog.
The CKC 12 Steps that are completed in the evaluation are:
- Accepting A Friendly Stranger
- Politely Accepts Petting
- Appearance and Grooming
- Out For A Walk
- Walking Through A Crowd
- Sit/Down On Command and Stay In Place
- Come When Called
- Reaction To A Passing Dog
- Reaction To Distractions
- Supervised Isolation
- Walking Through A Door/Gate
We offer many presentations for schools and organizations regarding bite prevention for children and adults, how to read dog’s body language, how to approach a dog, how dog’s see the world and common mistakes we make as humans with dogs.
To ensure lots of one on one attention space is very limited so reserve your spot early.
